Since opening our worldwide flagship at Bluebird one year ago, it’s been an incredible 12 months packed with amazing events and collaborations, famous faces, and we’ve even landed our own spaceship in store. We wanted to share some of our most memorable moments with you here, and invite you to a special afternoon tea on 31 August and 1 September to celebrate with us!
BLUEBIRD’S BEST BITS…SO FAR
From Sid Vicious to Vivienne Westwood
We rocked into town last September, marching through the streets of Chelsea in bowler hats to announce the arrival of our biggest and best showroom. We’d been scouring the city for some time for an iconic London landmark to call home, and hit the bullseye with Bluebird. As Tim says, “I’ve always loved the building. Chelsea has such a rich heritage of art, culture and design – you think of King’s Road and you think of Sid Vicious, Malcom McLaren, Vivienne Westwood – everyone used to talk about the King’s Road.”
Black Bowler Hats, a Yellow Submarine, and a Bluebird
So after an epic launch party for 300 friends, customers, press and celebs, we opened the doors of our most beautiful space, a sensory wonderland where Victorian elegance meets a streak of 1960s anti-establishment. Among the furniture collections, eccentricities include a 1.7 tonne rock crystal – so big that we had to enlist a specialist lifting team who are experts in installing museum artefacts – and a yellow submarine in a giant fish tank that plays The Beatles classic at the touch of a button. Yep, it’s not your regular furniture showroom.
You are Cordially Invited to…
Hosting is such huge part of who we are as a brand and what our furniture represents, and it was a joy to welcome guests to our first Gentlemen’s Evening and Ladies’ Night co-hosted by lifestyle partners such as Fears, Sophia Webster and Charlotte Tilbury.
Other hosted experiences have included a meditation evening where you could find your inner zen on our Noble Souls sofas, and a storytelling by author Ann Morgan who captivated an audience with tales of ancient indigo – the natural dye used in the Noble Souls collection. Wine buffs got a lesson from master of wines Richard Hemming at the Collector’s Salon evening, while Country & Town House editors Rosalyn Wikeley and Carole Annett treated guests to their interiors expertise with a discussion on the 5 Senses of Hosting.
It’s always a pleasure to welcome such an eclectic crowd into our stores, and a few well-known faces to walk through the doors of our Bluebird gallery include fashion legend Jean Paul Gaultier, boxing champ Prince Naseem, and footballer Frank Lampard. We’ve also welcomed Bollywood actress Rani Mukherji, writer and director Esther Anderson and music maestro Gary Barlow.
When rock n roll star Liam Gallagher paid us a visit he sat in the Apollo space lounge, which also caught the eye of chef Gordon Ramsay, who loved Apollo so much he bought one for his restaurant, Street Lounge at Bread Street Kitchen, along with our signature Shabby sectional sofas.
A Dog Walks into a Spaceship
Other highlights from the year include the Kensington & Chelsea Art Weekend, where we showcased the Apollo space lounge, and although they say never work with animals, we had a ball collaborating with the Love My Human Dog Show.
