It was a warm and breezy September evening, and the winds of change were in full force as we celebrated the grand opening of our new worldwide flagship at Bluebird with a show-stopping launch party. Nearly 400 VIP guests arrived to experience Timothy Oulton’s deep ethos of hospitality first hand as they explored our biggest and best store on earth.
Located on the famous King’s Road in London’s royal borough of Chelsea, the new 670m2 (7200 sq ft) gallery shares the ground floor of the historic Bluebird Garage with the famous Bluebird Café. Having opened its doors on 1 September, the grand opening event marked the flagship’s official launch and was attended by Tim Oulton, alongside VIP customers, partners, press, and interior designers. The opening comes a decade after the first Timothy Oulton gallery opened in L.A., and not only is Bluebird our first standalone store in London, it represents the journey of the brand over the last 10 years – showcasing all of Timothy Oulton’s best-loved icons under one roof.
Cue the DJ, pop the champagne, our guests had begun to arrive. Our specially decorated London cabs lined the King’s Road outside and the black carpet had been rolled out. Guests were welcomed in spectacular fashion, entering the gallery through an archway filled with thousands of fresh red roses, flanked by Timothy Oulton’s royal guards standing to attention as rose petals rained down from the sky.
Smiles, hugs and handshakes were exchanged between the crowd of old friends and new faces. It was wonderful to see the reaction of our guests as they experienced the space for the first time, taking in the dramatic visual display before them: the spectrum of different styles from rugged industrial to wild glamour, the sea of sparkle from the romantic lighting collections, and the playfulness of the many vintage installations – from the bespoke wall of cricket bats to the model train making its way along the track overhead, to the yellow submarine submerged in a fish tank. As parties go, it’s hard to imagine a more conversational backdrop.
Many of the guests couldn’t resist taking a seat in Apollo, a custom spaceship with an interior clad in hand-tufted leather. Others tested out the 1.7 tonne glowing rock crystal to see if they could feel those mystical powers, and in the Noble Souls room, the Revive mattress proved tempting as guests lay down to try it for themselves.
The gallery had come alive, filled with the sound of conversation and clinking glasses. Some were lounging on sofas as they chatted – including the new Westminster Button in natural indigo-dyed leather, exclusive to Bluebird. Others were winding their way through the space to explore, and many lingered next to the Axel dining table housing one of the most magnificent and abundant cheese platters ever to have graced London.
The time flew, and so had Bluebird’s wings – the gallery had officially taken flight and marked the beginning of a new chapter.
