Step inside this warm and inviting Mumbai family home, featured in Architectural Digest.

The interior is layered with texture, using unique pieces from around the world including a selection of furniture and lighting from Timothy Oulton's gallery at Tarun Vadehra Interiors in New Delhi.

The clients approached Khushboo and Kunal Khandelwal, co-founders of architecture and interior design practice Design Inc to design a home where old coalesces with new.

THE OWNERS SHARED A POETIC BRIEF DESCRIBING WHAT THEY WANTED

Khushboo says, "This Mumbai residence was a labour of love and a collaboration between the owners and us. It is a space where art, accessories, light and texture, all overlap with the distinct design flavours of a bygone era. This home is vintage yet modern." Kunal adds, "The clients are a well-respected, well-travelled, well-read business family from South Mumbai. They are fond of collecting vintage artefacts. The owners shared a poetic brief describing what they wanted for their home-a space that pays homage to old and new memories and where each element tells a story."

Timothy Oulton's Iris sconce lights welcome guests at the entrance door, inspired by submarine portholes and the famous story of Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea.

Inside, the walls and flooring are a mix of warm timber and exposed red brick, with multiple windows flooding the apartment with light and boasting views of the lush greenery outside.

A SPACE WHERE ART, ACCESSORIES, LIGHT AND TEXTURE, ALL OVERLAP WITH THE DISTINCT DESIGN FLAVOURS OF A BYGONE ERA.

The living room is anchored by two facing Westminster Button sofas, a classic Chesterfield-style sofa with deep hand-tufting and hand-distressed leather. A Globetrekker coffee table in Aero metal is an industrial take on vintage trunks, with Paris leather trunk side tables harking back to the romance of long, luxurious sea voyages. A brass Inception mirror hangs on the exposed brick wall, creating a portal of endless lights inspired by infinity mirrors from the 1970s.

A vintage wooden bar creates an inviting entertaining area, with a Timothy Oulton Globetrekker side table and an eclectic range of collectibles adorning the wall, including two acoustic guitars. This beautifully layered home is the perfect backdrop to both relax with family and to enjoy a night in with friends.
