OTHER THINGS TO CONSIDER
Ceiling height
Consider your room size and ceiling height when choosing the
scale of your pendant light or chandelier. Flushmount pendants can
be a better option for low ceilings, but a larger light fitting can
still work when placed over a coffee table for instance.
Can your ceiling support the weight?
Your ceiling must be able to support at least 5 times the weight
of the ceiling light, and may require strengthening if you are
hanging a heavy light fixture. Ensure you check the ceiling's
weight bearing capacity before installation.
The shape of the room or furniture
A series of round pendants are great for leading you down a
long, narrow hallway, rectangular pendants complement a long dining
table, and a more organic shape such as a crystal chandelier fills
the space in a vaulted room or grand stairwell.
Group pendant lights together
Lighting doesn't always need to be big and dramatic, groups of
small pendant lights work well for a more casual look - especially
when they're hung at different levels. A cluster of smaller
pendants looks great over a coffee table.
