Harking back to the romantic era of long, luxurious voyages by sea, our signature Globetrekker range is inspired by an original trunk that Tim Oulton discovered at an antiques market. According to the brass plate mounted above the latch, the trunk had been presented to a Mr Tom Richards on 26 November 1914 as he set off on his journey from the UK to South Africa. The canvas of the original trunk has been updated in Timothy Oulton's Aero and Vellum finishes but authentic details from Tom Richard's trunk were preserved, including the hand-curved wood banding, vintage-style hardware, and even the name plaque.
Roots & Inspiration
Shown here is the original trunk from 1914 that inspired the Globetrekker range. Despite its threadbare appearance, Tim saw something of intrinsic beauty in the trunk's intricate craftsmanship and took his treasure back to the Timothy Oulton workshops. Intrigued by the complex detailing and beautiful brass plate, Tim deconstructed the antique, redesigning it to encompass a full cabinetry collection.
