Product Details
Inspired by the classic refectory tables that were used to host abundant feasts in monasteries during Medieval times. The timber frame is handcrafted in century-old reclaimed oak, using enduring mortise and tenon joinery, a technique that has been used in woodwork for thousands of years. A natural stone top is crafted in Bluemoon, black marble, or white marble.
Bluemoon evokes a rugged, ancient stone unearthed from the ground, with earthy layers of deep browns, greys, blues and greens, unique to each piece. The stone is worked on by hand using simple tools to create a heavily distressed, pitted surface, with the pitting differing in depth and size to emulate a raw and weathered landscape shaped over time. Other natural characteristics include visible fissures and organic markings. A beautifully tactile finish, hand-polished for a light sheen.
In the black marble and white marble options, hand-chiselled vertical lines run along the tabletop's perimeter for textural contrast, with hand-polished nibbles along the edge - intentional imperfections created by our skilled craftsmen to reflect the character of ancient stone.
This is a heavy item. If delivery is not to a ground floor, please contact us prior to purchase.
Bluemoon Marble
Bluemoon marble is an entirely natural material, no two slabs will ever look the same, and the colours will also change under different light sources. Our Bluemoon marble tabletops are lovingly hand-distressed for a rugged aesthetic and make the whole table feel like a well-worn, aged piece. We sand the stone, chisel it, and then finally polish it to create a wonderfully tactile, pitted effect on the surface of the tabletop.
MONASTERY IN BLACK HAND-CHISELLED MARBLE
Playing with texture and contrast, the black marble and white marble tops feature hand-chiselled vertical lines along the entire peripheral edge. The Bluemoon tabletop does not feature this detail. Simple tools are used to chip the edge in places to further create the look of an age-old table, complementing the rugged reclaimed timber base.
