Inspired by the industrious baker's rack. With a rich history dating back to the 17th century, baker's racks were originally used in French bakeries to cool loaves of bread, and later adopted in England. Baker's racks were a common fixture in Victorian kitchens and evolved into functional storage and display pieces for both kitchens and living spaces, infusing a room with heritage, charm, and character. Our Baker's Rack bookcase is handcrafted in chunky planks of reclaimed oak, weathered over a century of use to create a beautiful patina unique to each piece. Iron bars stretch across the back of each shelf and heavy castors give a nod to the original baker's racks, which would have been wheeled from the oven to tempt patrons with delicious, freshly baked fare.
“I’ve always loved reclaimed wood, it has an honesty and a purity. Old wood is seasoned; the colour’s better, it feels better, it just looks more natural.”

Steeped in character
Our solid reclaimed oak repurposes all the different structural parts of the original building - from beams to floorboards to trusses. Its provenance is lovingly preserved in the dowels, holes, nail heads, cracks, and splits present in the wood - which all speak of its storied past.
