Taking inspiration from the dramatic slate quarries of Wales,
the Quarry coffee table celebrates slate in its pure, natural form.
Slate is formed over millions of years from layers of fine mudstone
and sometimes volcanic ash that becomes buried under pressure below
the Earth's surface. Neolithic hunters used slate to tip wooden
arrows and spears, the Romans used it to build forts, and slate is
today revered in both period and modern architecture. A
hand-hammered surface and uneven edges complete with the odd
intentional chip give this piece a wonderfully rugged texture,
honouring the unrefined beauty of the natural world.
