Timothy Oulton and sister brand Halo Touch present their most exciting leather innovation to date, inspired by nature itself. Recycling Earth's sustainable resources, Cascara is tanned using coffee cherry husks discarded by plantations during coffee production. This revolutionary process results in 100% naturally tanned leathers that are more versatile than alternative veg-tanned leathers, enabling us to create the most beautiful hand-finishes.
THE FUTURE OF SUSTAINABLE LEATHER
90% of the world's leathers are currently made with chrome
tanning. Coffee cherry husk tanning is a new, organic and
sustainable alternative to chromium. During the tanning process,
the dried husks are ground down and mixed with other natural
tannings, creating a 100% vegetable-based tanning agent.

THE THERAPEUTIC EFFECTS OF COFFEE CHERRIES
Coffee cherries are the whole fruits which grow on the coffee
plant, containing the bean (which is harvested to make coffee) and
the outer husk which is mostly discarded.
In some cultures, coffee cherry husks are used to make Cascara
tea. Cascara comes from the Arabic word Qishr, meaning husk. In
Yemen, Qishr tea is more popular than coffee. In Ethopia, the husks
are blended with ginger, nutmeg or cinnamon to make a tea called
Hashara.
Coffee cherry husk tea is known for its therapeutic effects.
It's high in antioxidants, good for digestion, and promotes
cognitive function. IN OTHER WORDS, COFFEE CHERRY HUSKS ARE
ACTUALLY GOOD FOR YOU!
HAND-FINISHED WITH TRANSLUCENT DYES
Like all Timothy Oulton leathers, Cascara is hand-finished in
our own workshops. Translucent, soluble dyes are worked into the
hide by hand to give a deep, rich colour. Simple tools are used to
distress the surface and create a subtly worn, aged look.
A SOFT TOUCH WITH A BEAUTIFUL SHEEN
Cascara leather shown on the Westminster Feather sofa. It's a
full aniline, pull-up leather with a rich, saturated colour, and
has a similar look and feel to our Old Saddle range. It feels soft
and slightly oily to the touch, developing a beautiful sheen and
polished patina over time.
Available in four colourways: Chestnut, Espresso, Molasses, and
Burnt Caramel.
