It was Galileo Galilei who said that “wine is sunlight held together by water”, so what better way to celebrate the summer than with an evening dedicated to wine at our Bluebird gallery.
On 20th August, we excitedly launched our first ever gallery in India. The black carpet was rolled out, lined with fresh rose petals, as we invited guests to enter the world of Timothy Oulton, New Delhi.
Occupying two floors of the four-storey Tarun Vadehra Interiors showroom, the new 3600 square foot gallery is located in a leafy lane off the Defence Colony flyover. Defence Colony is a vibrant and affluent neighbourhood, popular among Delhiites as a fashionable lifestyle and shopping destination. The gallery stands in good company, in close proximity to several upscale designer stores, art galleries, chic boutiques, restaurants and bars.
From customers to interior designers, press, VIPs, not to mention Indian actor Ronit Roy, we celebrated the opening with around 350 guests, some of whom had flown in especially for the event. Our British royal guards were standing to attention to welcome the crowd, while Mini Coopers lined the street ready for VIP drop-offs and pick-ups.
As guests explored the new gallery, the Pillars of Knowledge proved a centre of attraction and conversation went into full flow over glasses of champagne and a British cheeseboard – a rare treat in India – laid upon a bed of banana leaves for a more traditional twist. People relaxed on the sofas, lounging on the Nirvana sectional and Tribeca Tufted sofa, and discovered the dramatic lighting collection, including the ultra-glamorous Gradient pendant. The party stayed in full swing until 2am, overflowing to the chandelier-lit black tents outside as everyone enjoyed tasty British classics including fish and chips in newspaper cones and apple crumble and custard. Even the rain couldn’t stop us, and black Timothy Oulton umbrellas were at the ready.
Leading fashion designer Rohit Bal was in attendance as well as Greg Foster, Editor of Architectural Digest, who offered his “congratulations on an epic launch”.
Tim Oulton attended the opening and said of the new gallery: “We’re thrilled to be launching in India for the first time, there’s a vibrancy and energy to the city of New Delhi that we really connect to. India’s seen a surge in the demand for world-class furnishings over the last few years and what we offer is something very unique that will resonate with the well-travelled and design-conscious community. We’re delighted to be partnering with Tarun Vadehra Interiors, who share our passion for quality handcraftsmanship and innovative yet enduring design.”
