It was Galileo Galilei who said that “wine is sunlight held together by water”, so what better way to celebrate the summer than with an evening dedicated to wine at our Bluebird gallery.
This month marked our first event in the Dubai gallery, and it was certainly a night to remember. Celebrating the worldwide premier of the 2018 Collection, an exclusive speakeasy-style evening was hosted by our partner Marina Home and attended by Tim Oulton.
For one night only, the gallery became “The Bowler Club”, a fully-immersive experience, where every corner, passageway and room was transformed into a secret society club, inspired by traditional gentlemen’s evenings. The guest list comprised of press, partners, VIP customers, and bloggers including Sadaf Khan (@sadafjkhan) and Nasreen (@harfnoondesignstudio). Everyone had been sent a secret “key” and password to gain entry.
The 273 square metre Dubai gallery at Marina Home opened in 2015 in the affluent suburb of Al Barsha. Marina Home is a household name across the Middle East and is synonymous with quality and creativity. The inspiring surrounds of the gallery made it the perfect backdrop to host this special occasion.
Around 120 guests arrived, dressed to the nines in chic vintage attire and bowler hats (the “key” to entry), and were led up a candlelit staircase. Upon uttering the secret code “A gentleman always wears a bowler”, the door surreptitiously opened and guests stepped over the threshold to be transported to another world – that of an elegant private member’s club from the 1920s.
The sultry tones of live jazz music filled the air, cards were shuffled on the poker table, and the evocative atmosphere took guests back to the Roaring Twenties. Timothy Oulton’s Age of Elegance collection added to the glamorous ambience – ladies in flapper dresses chatted on the Den sofa in Revival Velvet, men in suits with braces relaxed on the Shabby sectional in Faded & Degraded and the epic lighting collection provided sparkle and glow – with the Rex floor mirror adding a touch of Art Deco decadence. There were canes and bowler hats galore – with one guest even adorning their bowler hat in jewels. Everyone was enjoying the spirit of the evening.
The highlight of the night was the exclusive unveiling of selected highlights from the Timothy Oulton 2018 Collection. The pieces had been flown in especially for the event, but won’t be available to order until early next year when the new collection officially launches. Guests had the opportunity to talk directly to Tim Oulton about his design inspiration, and the exciting innovations in the new collection.
The buzz of energy lasted from the moment guests entered, right up until the end of the night. It had been a heady occasion full of surprises, but eventually it was time for The Bowler Club to close its doors and bid guests adieu. We look forward to welcoming them back to the gallery early next year, when the 2018 Collection hits the floor worldwide. Until then, thank you, and goodnight from The Bowler Club.
