The original London Bridge was built 2000 years ago by the Romans, but over the centuries, floods, fire, war and disrepair led to the rebuilding of the bridge several times.
In the 1800s Sir John Rennie was asked to design a new bridge and in 1839, when London Bridge Station was opened, the first ‘commuters’ used the bridge to go over to the city. In 1968, Rennie’s bridge was sold to the McCulloch Oil Corporation and transported to Arizona to be rebuilt at Lake Havasu City. Five years later, London Bridge was reincarnated again, and officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II.
