Based on maritime flags from the International Code of Signals, Timothy Oulton’s Signal cushions capture the excitement of sea voyages. The International Code of Signals was established in 1857 as a means of communication to and from ships and is still used the world over, including by most navies.
Each flag represents individual letters of the alphabet with one or more letters assigned to various navigational and safety messages.
Inspired by six of these flags, each design is hand-dyed and hand-stitched onto a 100% cotton cover for relaxed comfort with the corresponding signal message playfully stitched along the border.
