Where do the materials come from?
Halodomes are almost entirely constructed from timber. The structural panel frames use PEFC certified timber sourced from Finland. The non-structural elements are produced from reclaimed timber that comes from a number of different international PEFC sources. A Passivhaus building is required to use approved suppliers only for the key components such as windows, doors, and ERU (energy recovery unit and mechanical ventilation system).
Are the Halodome materials resistant to terminates and other bugs?
Yes, all timber elements are treated with high pressure LOSP technology. The Halodome raised platform option also allows for easy visual inspection of termites and other pests.
