It was a crisp, cold winter evening as the sun went down over Seoul, but things were about to heat up, as we celebrated the grand opening launch party of Timothy Oulton’s first gallery in Korea.
Our Amsterdam Gentlemen’s Evening was a celebration of the modern gent all the way from head to toe, with whisky tasting, suit fittings and traditional shoe shining. A distinguished meeting, in the surrounds of daring design and traditional craftsmanship.
Around 80 dapper chaps and their chapesses arrived at the 4.500 square foot gallery in Amstelveenseweg, for an evening of gentlemanly indulgances from our discerning partners. The mood was one of relaxation as mellow notes of jazz were strummed on the double bass by live band Peu de Feu, under the soft glow of the Crossglass chandelier.
Golden drams of Balvenie were swirled and sipped as guests quenched their palette and enjoyed savoury treats of Dutch cheese from Reypanaer and tasty morsels of sausage and pate from Brandt & Levie. Ties were loosened as gents and ladies relaxed in the comfort of the gallery, lounging on the Westminster sofa in new Vagabond Red leather and the Yeti sheepskin chair, while others conversed at the London Café over a glass of Veuve Clicquot.
Possen Made-to-Fit Fashion were on hand with their measuring tape, ready to tailor-make their finest suits for the well-heeled crowd, while Duyf Shoes completed the ensemble with their handmade customised shoes, hand-painted on the night. With most of the guests coming straight from the office, it seemed work was still on some peoples’ minds as they were drawn to the Valkyrie desk clad in Spitfire, and it was agreed this was a sure fire way of making your working day far more cool and exciting,
As every gentleman knows, the details matter, and many of the gents sat back in a Timothy Oulton Charlie chair to enjoy a gleaming shoe shine from Distinctly Different and Amsterdam Shoeshine Company. A vigorous buffing brought out that rich, burnished quality of the shoe leather, just like the luxurious hand-finished Throne leather they were sat in.
Watchmakers Fromenteel displayed their latest line of finely crafted watches and the chatter continued as guests were introduced to Timothy Oulton’s new Honorary Ambassador, Menno J.F Born; Director at Christian Dior Couture Netherlands.
The excitement climaxed with the grand prize draw. Exclusive prizes from all partners included a Timothy Oulton Aston Martin Miniature, a model of the 1957 DBR1 which was driven by James Bond in Ian Fleming’s novel Goldfinger. Perhaps every gentleman should have a little bit of James Bond in him; an element of the daring and a touch of the fearless. As Fleming himself said; “Never say “no” to adventures”. Cheers to the modern gent, and cheers to your next gentlemanly adventure.
