9th May 2013. A cool spring evening in London, a steady crowd of interior designers, members of the press and close friends beat a path to Knightsbridge to celebrate the opening of Timothy Oulton’ s new gallery in London, at none other than Harrods, the finest department store in the world, by anyone’s measure.
Situated on the third floor, two Queen’s guards stood sentry at the entrance to the Timothy Oulton Gallery. Guests relaxed in the deep leather lounges and enjoyed a menu that reflected the best in traditional British cooking and the finest roast beef, fish and chips, and Yorkshire pudding all went down a treat with plenty of Veuve Clicquot, while a passionate Harrods Food Hall cheese monger served the finest English cheeses on a beautiful beam console table.
Dessert was a classic Victoria Sponge or apple pie, or both, for those who know a good thing when they taste it. Top nosh.
Music was provided by Kentish town sensations Kitty, Daisy and Lewis. Having recently had hits with ‘I’ve been everywhere’ and ‘Mean son of a Gun’, they were a perfect fit to harmonize Timothy Oulton’s foray into Harrods and had the crowd jiving to a set of acoustic R&B, Western Swing, jump blues and plain old rock and roll.
Our many wonderful guests included Harrod’s Managing Director Michael Ward, newly appointed Home Director Annalise Quest, publisher of House and Garden magazine Kate Sleslinger, Becky Sunshine from Financial Times House and Home, and the Observer, Giles Kime of Homes and Gardens and Sir Eric Peacock. Among them, the Oulton’s brothers, Timothy and Charlie.
Our gallery had been beautifully spruced up, and we were chuffed to share with our guests two new roomsets – the traditional Gentleman’s Lounge and Composer, which balances classical refinement and rock and roll grunt. Statement pieces included the Baabaa sofa in snow juxtaposed with our Junk Propeller Coffee table, and the military drums repurposed into side tables, which have always been dear to Tim’s heart.
Mark Emery warmly welcomed us to the Harrods Furniture Department. Merry making continued well after Tim’s eloquent vote of thanks, and that’s as should be. Never squander a good party. Words to live by.
The Timothy Oulton team would love the chance to welcome you to the third floor of Harrods, whenever you are in the neighborhood.
