Hong Kong’s Gough Street has got itself a new neighbour: Rare by Oulton. Rare features a unique antiques collection procured and collated by Tim Oulton, including many pieces which have inspired his furniture designs over the years. The Timothy Oulton interiors collections find deep roots in Tim’s background, which involved him in his father’s antiques business at an early age, and Tim has been actively collecting antiques ever since.
The Rare by Oulton boutique covers two storeys, and features reclaimed English mahogany parquet floors, and an imposing brass door that has been fitted to what was once the entrance to a printing shop at 19 Gough Street. The collection and the boutique is managed by Mr Lucas Vitale, who has known and worked with Tim for many years, and who was the founding gallery manager when Timothy Oulton opened its first store in Hong Kong.
The Rare collection includes distinctive, unusual and, of course, rare pieces. A continually rotating stock currently includes a pair of 1890’s barber’s chairs, a 1940’s double life-size training model of a Browning M1919 A4 .30 calibre machine gun, as well as a selection of antique custom Louis Vuitton trunks. The store’s carefully curated collection of rarities portrays Tim’s abiding interest in timeless design, unique creativity and truly authentic heritage craftsmanship.

– ref# 10023 Dunhill Aquarium Lighters
From HKD 50,000 to HKD 60,000 (3 in stock)
Alfred Dunhill Ltd is a British-based company specialising in men’s luxury leather goods, writing implements, lighters, timepieces, fragrances and clothing. The business was developed in 1923 by Alfred Dunhill after he inherited his father’s saddlery business on London’s Euston Road. In the 1950s Dunhill introduced a brand of lighters called the Aquarium, which is basically a table lighter. These new lighters were manufactured from lucite which has been used to carve the interior of the lighter to produce a decorative scene. The carving ended up being filled in with colour to make a number of motifs, the first being the Aquarium.
