In a quest to deliver experiences that truly touch people, we’re thrilled to launch our 2019 Collection, rooted in the idea that authentic materials and human-centred design have the power to change how people feel. We firmly believe that great creativity is both enduring yet perennially fresh, and the new collection pushes the boundaries of furniture design once again with epic new materials and finishes including ancient selenite crystals, dramatic printed velvet, luxurious sheepskin and reclaimed Edwardian parquetry.
Standout pieces include the Studio sofa, a new addition to the Metro collection; our expression of modern urban cool. This sleek and sinuous framed sofa, offered in both leather and fabric models, is at once sleek but very comfortable. Creating an acidic splash across the wide expanses of the Studio’s simple geometry, new Acid Jungle fabric is our latest printed velvet colourway, a follow-up from the already audacious Faded and Degraded velvet range.
Also new to Metro, the smart and sophisticated City armchair is the perfect leather swivel chair, transforming rooms into multivalent spaces, while the rugged yet elegant Milano chair injects style into any urban pad with its minimalist oak frame slung with luxuriously thick leather.
Building on the ruggedly refined palette of the Loft range, we’ve introduced for the first time the extreme Buck’dN Brok’n leather onto our classic Chesterfield model, the Westminster Button sofa. Previously featured on the iconic Saddle Chair, Buck’dN Brok’n is characterized by its deep scores and scratches that evoke an aged and storied life. The idea of a life well lived is also embodied by the new Edwardian collection, featuring tables and mirrors fashioned from reclaimed parquetry oak and mahogany that originally formed the floors of Edwardian dancehalls in the UK.
The sensory feast changes gears with the tousled tresses of Yeti sheepskin; a wildly luxurious long-haired finish, newly released this season in black and brown. Yeti is showcased on the rustic new Cabin bench, inspired by the cosy feel of traditional forest cabins, and the Trio chair, a creative reinvention of a traditional slipper chair with generous proportions.
Our lighting range has also been updated with renewed sparkle. Continuing last season’s forays into natural rocks, we continue to explore this geological strain with the new Selenite collection of pendants and sconces. For the large Selenite pendant, over 560 crystals are affixed individually by hand to create a dramatic stalactite-type effect.
On the inspiration behind the new designs, Tim Oulton says, “It always starts with the materials first, we look for the most authentic, sensory materials and then think how best we can use it. Great interiors have the power to change how you feel, so whether it’s down time or entertaining, it’s about engaging the senses and feeling alive. That’s an energy that we try to embody in all our products, and it was very much the driving force behind our 2019 Collection.”
