29 June, 2017: The first Timothy Oulton gallery in Africa has launched with a bang! After much anticipation, the new gallery at the Weylandts showroom in Johannesburg opened its doors for an exclusive grand opening party to rival the city’s hottest events of the year, in the company of Tim Oulton and 150 style savvy guests, VIPs, design industry luminaries and press.

Johannesburg is arguably Africa’s most cosmopolitan city, mixing a rich history with a modern, fast-paced lifestyle. Partnering with leading furniture store Weylandts, the new 85 square metre Timothy Oulton gallery is situated in the centre of Fourways, an established residential suburb close to Sandton, the financial capital of South Africa. For nearly 20 years, The Weylandts name has been synonymous with style, creativity and unparalleled quality, making it a perfect fit for Timothy Oulton.

The black carpet was rolled out to greet guests in signature Timothy Oulton style, lined by two luxury Aston Martin cars – a fellow British brand which shares Timothy Oulton’s passion for heritage, authenticity and design innovation. Two British guards stood to attention at the front entrance in their traditional red jackets and bearskin hats, you could almost hear the drum roll in your head as you entered through the doors. It was a grand welcome, which set the tone for an evening of decadence and fun.

The event opened with a light-hearted Q&A with Tim Oulton and Chris Weylandt, founder of Weylandts. Champagne flowed, the furniture wowed and Tim Oulton charmed as he continued to chat with guests about the stories and inspiration behind the designs. All the stops had been pulled out for a fantastic evening, the music was performed live, the handcrafted furniture created an inspiring backdrop and guests enjoyed food and drink galore, with a menu of bangers and mash, mini Yorkshire puddings and other British favourites to give the crowd a taste of Timothy Oulton’s British roots.

Immersing themselves in the full Timothy Oulton experience, guests lounged on the Shabby and Zenna sectionals, sipped champagne on the glamorous Gatsby sofa in the Age of Elegance range and mingled surrounded by the drama of the spectacular lighting gallery. The whole space was full of energy as people discovered the collections for the first time, commenting on the “impeccable design” and “British humour” embodied by the brand.

The champagne corks kept popping, the music continued to play and the dancing showed no sign of stopping, with Tim Oulton getting into the party mood whole-heartedly along with the rest of the crowd, as every good host should. Fresh red roses were spontaneously plucked from champagne buckets and used to decorate hair and button holes as guests continued to let their hair down and enjoy the occasion. Finally, everyone’s dancing legs became weary and it was time to call it a night, and what a memorable opening night it was.
