Dressed to impress, a crowd of Amsterdam’s finest fillies looked forward to a night of lavish indulgences at the Amsterdam gallery as we welcomed them to celebrate our Style and the City event.

It was a clear summer’s evening in the Dutch capital. The light and airy Amstelveenseweg gallery, with its 19th century architecture and dramatic two-storey windows, was a hive of activity as it laid host to our discerning partners in preparation for a super stylish ladies’ night.

On the cusp of the holiday season, the air was thick with frivolity and high spirits. Around 75 ladies in an array of splendid summer dresses – and some well-attired men – arrived to pink champagne tasting from Veuve Clicquot. Toes were soon tapping with English songs from the 1920s, 30s and 40s as live band Bohemian Soldiers kept the energy levels up, with singer Maaike Lans looking ravishing in red.

Under the sparkle of the Crystal rectangular chandelier, new Dutch jewellery brand House of Eléonore showcased their collection on the Museum dining table. Made from ethically sourced man-made diamonds and Fairtrade gold, pieces can be custom designed and printed in 3D to ensure the perfect finish before crafting begins.

More expert craftsmanship, this time in a culinary vein, was offered by Linnick patisserie. Guests took their tasty morsels of macarons and luxurious chocolate bonbons and sashayed to the Airfoil desk to choose their favourite perfume from the rows of fragrances from Skin Cosmetics. By inputting your preferences into the innovative digital DiagNose system, five scents are shortlisted for a blind test in which you choose your favourite one, uninfluenced by brand or packaging. Skins has caused a huge stir in Dutch retail cosmetics, offering niche brands to the Netherlands for the very first time. A touch of the revolutionary, which is always good in our book.

As the music continued to play, it was time for a bit of gin tasting with Damrak Gin. Made in Amsterdam, Damrak’s citrus flavours went down a treat as everyone started to relax and find a comfy sofa to chill out. Some lounged on the new Bond in black wool herringbone, while others gravitated to the slouchy Shabby by the London Café or the sumptuous Old Saddle Black leather of the Salisbury sofa, made even more glamorous by the nearby lit-up Rex mirror.

Over in another corner, ladies were being drawn to the Valkyrie desk, laden with bags and shoes from Salon Heleen Hulsmann. The Salon in Old South was a well-kept secret for a long time, but luckily for us they brought their unique and stylish collection of second-hand designer clothes, shoes and accessories to the gallery, whipping up a bit of a fashion storm. In perfect complement, La Maison Nouvelle presented their exclusive tailored lingerie, made by hand. Another fashion aficionado, our Honorary Ambassador and Director at Christian Dior Couture, Menno JF Born, also joined the evening, looking effortlessly impeccable.

At the end of the night, just as everyone was feeling very chilled, the lucky draw was announced and excitement started to spark in the room. Some real stand-out prizes from each partner were enthusiastically received by the crowd.

One happy winner took home a Timothy Oulton Nene shoulder bag, partly inspired by the iconic Birkin. It just goes to show, timeless elegance and authentic craftsmanship simply never goes out of style.
