The Pantone Color Institute has unveiled its hotly awaited Pantone Color of the Year for 2020: Classic Blue. The institute says, “Instilling calm, confidence, and connection, this enduring blue hue highlights our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era.”
Blue has long been acknowledged as the most universally favoured colour, with its varying shades psychologically linked to creativity, trust, relaxation and serenity.
Here’s our Blue Hue Roundup for injecting some timeless blue into your interior.
The elegant Serpentine Sofa in Revival Velvet Navy is a fully buttoned-up Chesterfield-style sofa that’s perfect for cocktail nights with friends and cosy evenings in. It’s named after the Serpentine river due to the languid curve of the front seat, which lends a softer, more feminine silhouette. Swathed here in sumptuous Revival Velvet Navy; a modern velvet with an intensely rich colour and luxuriously soft hand feel. Navy blue got its name from the colour worn by officers in the British Royal Navy since 1748. Dark blue is often associated with authority, strength and intelligence.
Indigo is among the oldest dyes ever to be used for textile dying and printing. Since the times of the Greeks and Romans, it has been seen as a luxury dye and was often referred to as Blue Gold because of its high value as a trading commodity. For the Noble Souls sofa collection, Timothy Oulton has developed its own indigo dye, created using only natural plant stuffs and water. Pure linen is dipped into the dye and then stonewashed to create a beautiful soft hand feel. Six shades of blue are available, from the light and tranquil Old Loom Sky to the deep and restful Sol Linen Bluebell.
Faded & Degraded Glamour
Capturing the romance of bygone glamour, Faded & Degraded Melting Paisley velvet boldly collides old world charm with 21st century vigour. Based on a background of faded Victorian damask wallpaper, a contrasting splattered blue ink overlay adds a modern expressive viewpoint onto the ornate detailing and ordered form underneath. Showcased on the sleek contours of our slouchy Shabby sectional, this exotic mix of blues and golds pairs perfectly with metallic accents. Available on selected upholstery.
Ronin Indigo Leather
A limited edition of 50 pieces, the Westminster Button sofa in Ronin Indigo leather was launched to commemorate the opening of our worldwide flagship at Bluebird, London. This classic leather Chesterfield has a distinctive blue finish achieved using natural indigo dye. The complex dyeing process takes a staggering 30 days to complete; the hide is first tanned with bark and nut shells, with natural oils and waxes applied for a slightly aged look, and the indigo is then applied. Once the leather has been upholstered onto the finished piece, it is hand-finished for a second time using wet sandpaper to achieve a stonewashed look, and finally polished with lamb’s wool. (Available exclusively at Bluebird.)
