In celebration of the official birthday of Her Majesty the Queen of England, we saluted good ol’ Blighty by hosting a special worldwide afternoon tea at some of our galleries – in true British style naturally.
Timothy Oulton was proud to furnish the VIP reception lounge for the BAFTA LA Brittania Awards on November 9th. The taste of excitement was tantalising as we rubbed shoulders with George Clooney, Idris Elba, Sacha Baron Cohen and Britain’s current hottest export –Benedict Cumberbatch.Hosted by the hilarious Rob Brydon, the Brittanias kicked off the movie awards season at the iconic Beverly Hilton hotel. Hollywood’s finest sashayed from the paparazzi-lined red carpet into the welcome surrounds of the Timothy Oulton Lounge.
Our signature scent from the world’s oldest apothecary, Santa Maria Novella, filled the air. Traditional British sweets were dished out to the delight of one guest who was reminded of his childhood in the UK as he nostalgically chewed on a liquorice allsort. Cool Brittania ruled the room from our Bensington footstool right down to our Union Jack napkins, caressed by the likes of dashing Mr Clooney as he chatted next to our Spitfire wrapped bar.
The Los Angeles BAFTAs begun in 1987, serving as a bridge between the Hollywood and British entertainment industries. With our British roots, we couldn’t resist celebrating our great British Broadcasting Corporation with a special homage in giant Aero letters. And before you ask, the gentlemen sitting down aren’t up and coming movie stars, it’s our suitably dapper Timothy Oulton LA team.
After a relaxing start to the evening, the stars made their way into the Ballroom for the awards ceremony. Winners included Sir Ben Kingsley, Kathryn Bigelow, and Sacha Baron Cohen, who had the audience reeling with laughter during a stage prank with Grace Colington – once co-star to Charlie Chaplin. The night was a fabulous celebration of the incredible talent on both sides of the pond. We look forward to another year of outstanding film and television that us Brits and Yanks are famous for.
