“You have to have great food and wine, but for me, it’s more about people, atmosphere and all the senses – and when the senses take over you’re done!” Tim Oulton
Last month, we hosted “a surprisingly great night in” for a discerning group of fellows in two of the world’s most vibrant cities; Hong Kong and Amsterdam.
Celebrating the speakeasy-inspired Hudson collection, guests were told to “expect the unexpected”, as we were joined by some of the top lifestyle, fashion and culinary brands in each city to indulge our crowd in some fine gentlemanly pleasures.
Our dapper Dutch chaps arrived at the Amstelveenseweg gallery looking very stylishly attired for the evening, with some discriminating ladies also in attendance as well as our Honorary Ambassador, Erik van der Burg from Vida Real.
The sound of relaxed jazzy notes filled the air as the live band got into their groove. The doors of the Hudson fridge cupboard were opened, revealing a host of different sized bottle of Veuve Clicquot inside, ready to start the champagne tasting.
Oger Maatwerk were on hand with their tailored suits, made from the finest cashmere and Vicuña, while Amsterdam Vintage Watches showcased a selection of their vintage timepieces. The evening then went a bit ‘wild’ with Amsterdam Taxidermy, who featured zebra, porcupine and butterflies (who died of natural causes).
The Instamatiq interactive photo booth was a huge hit, with guests sharing their snaps of the night on social media. It was a warm and convivial atmosphere in the gallery, with guests relaxing on the leather sofas and exploring more of the Hudson collection. The end of evening raffle raised a wave of excitement in the room, and as it finally approached closing time Gentlemen’s Watch – our media partner for the evening – made sure everyone went home with something stylishly interesting to read.
While over in Hong Kong…
The gallery in Gough Street welcomed around 40 guests for an evening dedicated to the modern gentleman. Lifestyle concierge brand Quintessentially came with their top ‘in the know’ tips, The Artist offered mouth-watering bespoke chocolates and beer, and Whiskey Library provided the classic gentleman’s evening libations.
The centrepiece of the night was the Hudson sideboard filled with champagne, attracting a lot of attention from the crowd with its sumptuous Fury leather panels, hidden ice bucket and secret compartments. Guests lounged on the Saddle chair and Tribeca Tufted sofa as they sipped drinks and listened to the live jazz band, whilst others relaxed on the Shabby sectional sofa as English fragrance house Penhaligons concocted a bespoke scent for them. Another highlight of the evening was a talk by artisanal men’s clothier The Armoury, who offered advice on style etiquette for gentlemen, with tips on how to dress.
The night went on much later than planned as everyone was enjoying themselves so much – certainly testament to ‘a surprisingly great night in’.
