Celebrating the modern gentleman, the Amsterdam gallery on Amstelveenseweg hosted a discerning group of ladies and gents last week for a homage to style and craftsmanship, together with some of the city’s top lifestyle brands.
Timothy Oulton and Grosvenor are two quintessentially British brands that share a modern, global viewpoint and a passion for inspiring a better lifestyle.
The Grosvenor family can trace their ancestry back to the times of William the Conqueror, and started their property portfolio over 300 years ago in London’s exclusive enclaves of Belgravia and Mayfair. Timothy Oulton’s roots began in Manchester in 1976, when Tim’s dad, Major Philip Oulton, opened his antiques shop.
Last week, both companies came together at the Timothy Oulton gallery, 6,000 miles away from where they first began in the UK, in St Francis Street, Hong Kong. Friends were invited for an informal discussion on “Living Cities that Inspire a Better Lifestyle” with CEOs Frank Spikker, of Timothy Oulton, and Ben Cha, of Grosvenor Asia Pacific.
Around 70 guests from the worlds of real estate, interior design and architecture arrived for the evening, mixing, mingling and making new acquaintances. Champagne and wine glasses were filled, new faces were introduced, and rustic cheese platters hit just the spot as guests lounged on slouchy Shabby and Dex sectionals.
The wall of leather hides created a bit of a stir as Timothy Oulton Ambassadors demonstrated how different the furniture can look in the different finishes by theatrically wrapping the huge hides over a sofa, showing off all the hand-finished burnished glory of each leather.
Now Tim Oulton may be the founder and creative driving force behind his eponymous company, but the day to day running is in the hands of Frank Spikker, CEO, BBQ connoisseur and keen sailor in his spare time. Sitting alongside Grosvenor’s Ben Cha, the evening’s discussion began, focussing around cities, homes, space and lifestyle in Asia. Ben delved into the notion of quality, not just luxury, and elevating Asia’s high density cities through better development to become more livable. Frank expressed Timothy Oulton’s vision to create inspiring experiences, anchored in spectacular interiors.
With two companies rooted in British heritage but so passionate about innovation, the dialogue between Grosvenor and Timothy Oulton remains open, as both continue the quest to build captivating, enriching and inspiring spaces for people to live.
