Storytelling noun The art of telling stories. Stories are very important to us at Timothy Oulton. It’s not that we give each piece its own twee story – more that the process of bringing it into being has to have some meaning.
Corks popped, glasses clinked, and bubbles fizzed ceremoniously as we toasted a great night in at the New York gallery with a special champagne tasting of Veuve Clicquot’s hand selected grand crus.
The February chill was biting, but a warm welcome awaited our guests in the cosy, comfortable surrounds of the gallery at ABC Carpet & Home. The intimate group of 18 included VIP customers and their guests, and there was a wonderful relaxed feeling of being amongst friends.
Our guest sommelier from Veuve Clicquot introduced the four champagnes that would be tantalizing our senses for the evening, from the intensely aromatic signature Yellow Label, to the silkiness of La Grande Dame – a tribute to the pioneering spirit of Madame Clicquot, to the juicy ripe strawberry and cherry hints of Veuve Clicquot Rosé, to the grand finale – the beautifully fresh and refined Vintage 2008.
The atmosphere was fun and laid-back, with guests sipping and chatting together. The attention-grabbing centerpiece of the evening was the Hudson collection, with the bar cabinet, cupboard and sideboard each filled with rows of Veuve Clicquot’s iconic bottles. Encased in rich Fury leather, the Hudson range of bar cabinets is inspired by the “speakeasy” bars that popped up during the Prohibition era. Each piece opens up to ingeniously reveal ample storage for drinks, glasses, trays and accessories – everything you need to start your evening a little earlier, and let it go on a little later.
Hosting a great night in is all about having people over, enjoying a drink and having some harmless fun, and that had certainly been the tone of the evening. Goodnight New York and cheers to Madame Clicquot…and letting your hair down once in a while.
