Dervla Louli epitomises the spirit of Hong Kong with her work-hard, play-hard mentality. When she’s not writing stories or styling photo shoots you may spot her pounding the pavements of Bowen Road or sipping a whisky and soda at Soho’s 001, clutching her favourite Timothy Oulton bag – the Rhodes Weekender.
Name: Dervla Louli
Day Job: Managing Editor at Sassy Media Group
Honorary Ambassador Since: February 2014
The view that inspires me is when I run along Bowen Road. The view is fantastic and it makes me feel so lucky to live in such an amazing city which you can’t really fully appreciate from ground level.
My escape is going home to my parents’ house in Ireland and sitting in their cosy living room next to a roaring fire.
The most exciting place right now is my office. The Sassy Media Group office is a constant hub of activity and we’re expanding rapidly. I think in general Hong Kong is full of opportunity and it’s a city where anything is possible.
My style influences are fashion editors because their wardrobes are a concise edit of what works rather than always following the trend of the moment. Julia Sarr-Jamois, Fashion Editor at Wonderland Magazine, is a firm favourite.
My best recent discovery is a little whisky shop called Liquor & Liqueur on Wellington Street. I was off alcohol for a detox but couldn’t resist a glass of really rare whiskey at Liquor and Liqueur. It stocks every type of whisky imaginable and they even have a speakeasy underneath called 001 which is open into the early hours.
My favourite room is my living room. I have big cushions made from silk scarves that I found at a vintage market and a big silver Timothy Oulton trunk that I fell in love with the first time I saw it, it was the second thing that went into our apartment.
