Pure materials

Provenance of materials is extremely important to Timothy Oulton. Pure, natural materials are sought out from whichever obscure corner of the globe offers the best quality. Some of these materials have already experienced a lifetime of use, and are reclaimed and reshaped to begin their new chapter. Starting from scratch, the most precious ingredients are used to produce the most beloved finished pieces.

Deep in the psyche

Deep in the psyche

Leather is like an old friend to mankind, deeply ingrained in man's psyche. It's one of the most authentic naturally occurring materials, and one of the first used by man.

The source - the Pampas

The source - the Pampas

The best leather comes from South America - Brazil and Argentina - where the cattle run free on the Pampas. The resulting leather is rich and supple, and perfect for the hard wearing requirements of building furniture to last a lifetime, and then be handed on.

Tim meets Diego

Tim meets Diego

Upon meeting Diego at a fair in Shanghai, Tim instantly knew he had found the right man for the job. Growing up in Argentina and spending his life working with leather, Diego brings a lifetime of expertise to the Timothy Oulton brand. - Read more about Diego here -

Brought to Life

Brought to Life

With all of the leather from Timothy Oulton's tannery, translucent aniline dyes are worked into the leather by hand the way it was done traditionally, leading to a rich colour palette, rather than the uniform treatments often used today.

Hand transformation

Hand transformation

Each hide is transformed by hand. Because the dye and leather become one, the leathers are highly resilient to scratches and abrasions that are part and parcel of modern living.
